There’s a big difference between starting a new company (a true start-up) when you are 28, single, no mortgage and dog-only existence versus being 49, married, children, bills, more bills and day-to-day life realities. The level of sacrifice is greater, the loss of family attention and personal time is significant. I do my best to make peace with that. Try as you will, it is a constant tug at your heart strings, constant series of “is it worth it?” questions and an ever-growing piggy bank funded by guilt. It is also an exercise in self-focus and self-discipline which lies in direct contrast to being part of a larger family unit, having quality “me” time and any social life. On this Valentine’s Day, I am reminded with a sweet card from my family to keep the faith.
