“She’s brilliant. She’s driven. And she’s determined to make health and wellness easier through her line of authentically organic beauty products. We got an opportunity to step inside the stylish life of Karen Behnke, serial entrepreneur and founder of Juice Beauty. While juggling her companies (yes that’s companies, plural), family and new ventures keeps her pretty busy, her approach to clean living seems as effortless as her style. “
Describe your current relationship with your closet? (love it, hate it, we need to break up)
Well, my current relationship is fabulous because I just finished a massive clean up—not really by choice! We built our home almost 20 years ago and our master bedroom closet main rack recently fell down which made me get rid of so many old clothes as I cleaned up the mess. It felt fabulous! I think I could probably go through again and purge more but my relationship right now is doing pretty well.
Describe the outfit that makes you feel like the most authentic version of yourself.
We are a wellness based brand given my wellness lifestyle so I would probably say running or yoga clothes or casual business dress.
When did you last push The Reset Button?
What’s your favorite Reset R-label piece and why?
I like the Modern Jogger pants in black. My younger employees told me that I looked hip and happening in them so there you go….I bought them. They are SUPER comfortable.
Why did you feel compelled to start your own skincare and makeup brand?
It all started with being a Mom. After building one of the first corporate wellness companies in the country, I developed a keen interest in personal care products when I was having my babies at the young (ha!) age of 40 and 42. Experiencing hormonal changes and the beginning of lines in my skin, I set out to find healthy skincare solutions that delivered visible results and I was astounded to learn that, although the skin can absorb what is placed on it, there were very few available healthy personal care products that worked well. I wanted to create meaningful change in the beauty industry. Years after my second child was born, I subsequently bought the name “Juice Beauty” and launched the company from scratch in 2005. And then set out to do the impossible: to create luxurious organic formulations that perform better than conventional beauty products.
You’ve found great success in a very crowded industry. What differentiates Juice Beauty from other skincare lines?
Authentically Organic Ingredients, Clinically Validated Skincare. Vibrant Plant Pigment Makeup.
Where do you get inspiration for new products?
It really comes from within, from researching ingredients and from our amazing product development and marketing leaders.
How did you decide on the name Juice Beauty?
I really wanted the name and greatly overpaid for it but as my concept was to start with Organic botanical juices as a base, instead of water like the naturals or petroleum glycols like conventional chemical brands…it was a perfect fit.
What are three ways to describe your personal style?
California chic. Athletic. Casual.
What is your go-to makeup routine?
Now in my 6th decade, it does take me a few minutes longer to get my face ready than my younger years. After showering with our Stem Cellular Exfoliating Peel Spray (instant results!), I apply our Stem Cellular Booster Serum, Moisturizer and CC Cream SPF 30 in Desert Glow. I have never been a foundation girl in my entire life until we made our Phyto-Pigments Serum Foundation which applies perfectly over our Primer or a Moisturizer —or as I do in the mornings, our SPF 30 CC Cream. Then a bit of our Phyto-Pigments Perfecting concealer in Cream, Phyto-Pigments eyeliner black, Phyto-Pigments Brow Envy Gel in Brown and Phyto-Pigments Mascara. This literally takes me maybe 10some minutes.
