As working parents of two young kids, my husband of eight years and I realized we had stopped scheduling time for the two of us. We talked about creating a steady date night but it never really worked because it meant more time away from the kids. And truthfully, it felt more like an obligation than a special event.

I started dating my husband. We started meeting for lunch spontaneously. We work near each other and started meeting once or twice a week during slow weeks for impromptu lunch dates. Not only are they fun and easy, but they allow us some “we” time in the middle of an otherwise hectic day. They also serve as a throwback to our courting period when dates were a real pick-me-up, with a dose of anticipation and even some hand-holding.
