I went back to school for fashion design when I was 31. I was getting divorced, had three kids and was stuck in a rut, in fact, I was at the bottom of the rut. Looking back, I don’t know how I did it, financially or otherwise. You just do it. By the time I’d finished school, a friend had put me in touch with a production designer and I bugged him for a year. He finally got an indie film and asked me if I wanted to design it. I had no idea what I was doing — not a clue. Twenty years later, it’s my passion, I love what I do and it’s allowed me to be able to raise my family how I wanted. It’s a real gift.
