We love a woman who always keeps her wit about her. With a wicked sense of humor (scope her out on social @andilavs) and an equally on-point sense of style, Andrea Lavinthal makes doing it all look like a hell of a lot of fun. As Style and Beauty Director at PEOPLE, mom to a busy toddler Saxon Gamble and contributor at Heymama, she’s got zilch time for outfit changes—so versatility is a wardrobe non-negotiable. And we think her simple-chic style is a perfect complement to her no-pretense personality and infectious smile.

"My mom inspires me to be my best self. She’s thoughtful, generous, and the right kind of crazy.  We talk every day and I can depend on her for anything, but she’s also taught me how to solve problems on my own.  If I’m a good mom, it’s because I learned from her."

Describe your current relationship with your closet

We’re in a rut. But there’s still enough good left to make me want to work things out.

What’s your pet peeve when it comes to dressing?

That my boyfriend and toddler son don’t take their roles as my personal in-house stylists seriously.

Describe the outfit that makes you feel like the most authentic version of yourself.

Levis, a white T-shirt and my favorite metallic Vans.

How has your style changed since becoming a mother?

I frequently find dried yogurt on my clothes. Other than that, it’s pretty much the same.

What’s your secret weapon to always looking effortlessly chic?

A black blazer. It turns anything, from jeans and a tee to a dress, into an actual outfit.  And my curling iron. I use the kind without a clamp to turn my naturally frizzy curls into beachy waves.

When did you last push The Reset Button?

When I had my son.  He’s 18 months old and every stage has been equal parts incredible and challenging.  I’m learning to accept that when it comes to being a mom, I’ll never feel totally on top of things.

What things have you recently checked off your bucket list?
We just took our first family vacation to Grand Cayman. I put off traveling on a plane with my son for as long as I could but finally gave in. It was the perfect trip…on Instagram.

Who inspires you to be your best self?

My mom. She’s thoughtful, generous, and the right kind of crazy.  We talk every day and I can depend on her for anything, but she’s also taught me how to solve problems on my own.  If I’m a good mom, it’s because I learned from her.

What’s your favorite R|Label piece and why?

The Vegan Leather Leggings. They make you feel like a badass.

How do you rejuvenate and recharge?

Watching Dateline on my couch with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc.

Describe your personal style in 3 words:

Elevated, basic, mom.

If you were to write your own morning mirror what would it be? (Daily Affirmation)

“Don’t freak out.”
