You know we’re all about a good reset (literally)—and whether that applies to wardrobe, career, relationships or beyond, step number one is shedding the toxic. And beauty-wise, that’s a really big deal. Because, FYI—your skin absorbs about 70% of whatever you put on it. So we totally get April Gargiulo’s frustration with mainstream beauty products packed with toxic irritants. The result…? Active Botanical Serum, a nutrient-rich, toxin-free botanical serum from her line, Vintner’s Daughter. (Did we mention she owns a winery?). Not only is her formula crazy effective for getting that all-natural glow, she also donates 2% from every bottle sold to charities benefiting women and children. Beauty and benefits. We love it. And we love her. So we couldn’t wait to take a deeper dive into her style, and see how this busy entrepreneur makes it all work.

"Over time small shifts have led to bigger 'resets' from beginning my meditation practice to changing my eating habits to more thoughtfully leading my company."

Describe your current relationship with your closet? (love it, hate it, we need to break up)

I have a small closet that forces me to keep only the things I wear a lot. I love vintage, so I have an even smaller closet in my kids’ playroom where I keep some of my favorite vintage pieces.

What’s your pet peeve when it comes to dressing?

Wool. It makes me itch like crazy.

Describe the outfit that makes you feel like the most authentic version of yourself.

Any outfit that I can hang with my kids in – which means it needs to be able to be on the floor playing games, survives a glitter-fueled craft time, convert into a princess ball gown on demand, and keep me warm enough at the park.

When did you last push The Reset Button?

Everything is an evolution for me, not an overnight transformation. Over time small shifts have led to bigger “resets” from beginning my meditation practice to changing my eating habits to more thoughtfully leading my company.

What inspired you to be your own boss?

I wanted to be able to work from home. That lasted about two years. Now we have a beautiful office in The Presidio that I can walk to.

What’s your favorite R-label piece and why?

The vegan Perfect Moto jacket is great. It’s ethical and soft and can be worn in any number of ways.

How or where do you go to rejuvenate to recharge?

I’m not very good at it right now, but I dream of becoming an Aman junkie and traveling the world.

What are three ways to describe your personal style?

Comfortable, casual and normally something vintage involved.

If your life was a theme song, what would it be?

I’m a huge music lover, so this answer changes from one minute to the next. Impossible for me to even choose one style or genre.

If you were to write your own morning mirror what would it be? (Daily Affirmation)

Feel and show gratitude.

What are the people, places and/or things that inspire you to be your best self?

  1. I am incredibly inspired by the kids turned activists fighting for gun control. I have an amazing crew of fellow female entrepreneurs around me that inspire me endlessly.
  2. Listening to the Secular Buddhism, Super Soul Sundays, How I Built This and Second Life podcasts are super inspirational too.
  3. Lastly, I have to say, my husband – who is just pure awesomeness.

Which trend(s) in wine and/or skincare are influencing you the most these days?

There is a move towards full ingredient transparency in skincare and wine – and I am all for it.

Are you ready to live that one-product life? Give April’s Active Botanical Serum a go with her tried-and-true Push/Press Method (Don’t skip Step 5!). You can feel extra righteous about supporting this independent skincare line because Vintner’s Daughter shares 2% of every purchase with charities dedicated to protecting, educating and empowering women and children around the world. Pretty amazing, right?
